Julep Maven Monthly Subscription Box

So I just signed up for the Julep Maven intro box for 1 cent last week and they just sent the email letting everyone know what will be in their upcoming box and I'm hooked already! I thought I would just sign up for the intro and get the box for one cent and then cancel afterwards. Wasn't I naive! I did the quiz they give you for your style profile and was given the Boho Glam box- which is what my intro will be. But afterwards I saw that if you get the "It Girl' box you get 3 polishes instead of 2 plus foot lotion (Boho Glam and all other styles). So with Julep Maven you get to preview each upcoming box and switch for a month if you like so that's exactly what I did for my July box. I will just give you a little preview here of what's in each.

Also this month (from what I understand) depending on if you live in Canada or the States you get a free Canada Day or July 4th Polish! Loving my Canadian option- let's get festive! :)

PLUS, you also get a voucher for a free polish (yet to figure out if that'll be for the next box or a seperate online order) and you can add extra's for $4.99- regular $14.99! You can add any of the polishes and glosses from all the boxes this month.

The glosses are new to Julep and they call them Lip Vernis. As I said above I got the It Girl box for July (which includes no gloss) but added the Lip Vernis in Poppy from the Boho Glam box. Uh, what have I gotten myself into with this! Julep is really great though and I think I will be sticking with them until my nail polish collection gets out of hand (is there such a thing?!)

If you wanna check them out and sign up for an intro box for 1 cent follow this link and use the code COLOR2012 in the discount section of the checkout page.

What are your thoughts on Julep Maven boxes?

Matte Finish Nail Polish

So I recently heard from a friend about OPI's Matte Finish top coat and was really excited about it. But I also heard it's pretty hard to get a hold of right now, so here's an alternative: NYX Matte Me Crazy. What's amazing about this polish line is that it's regular $1.99 but right now it's on sale at Walmart in Canada for 2 for $3.00! You can't beat that. I bought another colour with it but I haven't tried that out to see what the consistency is like. As far as the Matte Finish goes though, it's great. Goes on smooth and not goopy for how inexpensive it is. It also doesn't make your nails look hazy like you might think from the look of the bottle.
I also picked up Sally Hansens Smooth and Perfect in Sorbet and tried that with the Matte Finish. It's a very neutral peachy-pastel colour but I love it. This polish is definitely buildable and you may have to apply 3 or 4 coats if you want it to look more like it does in the bottle. I just applied 2 though because I didn't want to spent all night worrying about smudging it. I found it hard to capture the matte finish in a photo but have a look and see what you think!

So, there it is. Final verdict- I really like the matte finish and will definitely be trying it with lots of other colours.

Have you tried a matte finish top coat? What do you think?

Makeup Dupe List

I just found this makeup dupe list and I am SO excited about it. There is so many products that I want that sometimes aren't within my budget but with this list I can at least hopefully find something similar. Once I find similar products I normally Google it with the product I want to compare it to (say "Milani Luminous- Nars Orgasm" for example) and look for blog reviews comparing the two. Trust me if you want to find a review comparing beauty products I can almost guarantee someone has done it. I'll also look for MakeupAlley reviews. Anyway, that's all, just a quick post sharing what I've found!

Hunter Boots Dilemma

So I've got a bit of a dilemma. My boyfriend is going to get me some Hunter Boots for my birthday which is coming up in a few weeks and I really don't know what colour I want! For the most part I think it's between the Original Black, Original Green, and Gloss Black. And if I was to go with a colour maybe 'Very Berry'. Any thoughts?

Of course, she makes the green look better than they would on me ;).

Black is very plain but I love the socks you can get to go with the boots.
Here are the Black Gloss ones (I love that style with these boots)

Lasty here is the Very Berry colour that I've been thinking about- in a Gloss.

So what do you think?? Uh, it's so tough! I could solve the issue by letting my boyfriend get me a pair for my birthday and then just buy the other pair myself! :) haha but there is really no need for me to have two pairs (for now) so a decision must be made, hopefully with your help!

GLOSSYBOX

Let me just start off my saying..GLOSSYBOX kicked LuxeBox's ass! I wasn't overly impressed when I received my LuxeBox but now that I got my GLOSSYBOX it has really made LuxeBox look bad, no offence. I could tell as soon as I held the packaging in my hands, the GLOSSYBOX was so much heavier. Also, the box construction itself was much nicer, it was a solid hard box as opposed to a soft cardboard box. Once I opened it I realised that I would use everything that was in this box.

Here's what was in it:

Sebastian Professional Volupt Shampoo- in full size. This smells amazing. If you use Olay Quench body lotion, it smells exactly like that. I haven't tried it yet but it retails for $15.78.

Curel Foot Therapy Soothing Cream- full size again. This is a drug store which might disappoint some people but I could use it so you won't hear me complaining. It's a very thick cream, fast absorbing and it smells great. This one retails for $3.99

Simple Eye Makeup Remover- sample size.

Simple Facial Wash Gel- sample size. Again these are drugstore samples, but I'm interesting in trying these because Simple is said to be the UK's #1 facial skincare range. It's a bit irritating  though how these two samples count as two separate products because the point of these boxes is to discover new products. These each retail at $9.99.

And lastly Pandora's Makeup Box Lipstick in Cute- full-size. At first glance I didn't really think this was a colour I would wear but I did give it a try and it's not too bad. It's a bit of a dark coral-y colour once on. It's also quite moisturising and smells divine. The packaging is really cute too. This retails for $16.00.

So all in all- I thought this was a great Box. I will be giving LuxeBox 1 more month and then if I'm not satisfied I will probably cancel and just stick with GLOSSYBOX.

Luxe Box Arrival

My Luxe Box has arrived!

I placed my order for my Luxe Box April 20th and my first (May) box arrived May 28th. Not too bad. I must say I was a bit surprised by how small the box was (about 7" x 7" for anyone who cares). I guess I just thought it would be bigger from pictures and videos I had seen, but none the less I'm still pleased to be holding it in my hands!

I was also very pleased to have recieved two boxes, the regular Luxe Box and a bonus Bath & Body Box (white). In the Bath & Body box I received the Venus & Olay razor , as well as Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex. I am quite happy with the razor, as that alone is probably almost the price of the box so I feel we're off to a good start. :)

Inside my actual Luxe Box I received:

'Kerastase - Masque Chroma Riche' - Here's a little blurb about the product I found on LookFantastic- "Introducing the first deep emollient light refracting hair care for damaged, coloured, highlighted or sensitised hair. Kérastase Reflection Masque Chroma Riche is a luminous softening treatment mask that delivers mirror-like radiance to your hair."

It has also recieved great reviews on MakeupAlley so I am looking forward to trying this out. The full retail size value is $57 so I'm kind of hoping I don't fall in love with it.

I also got 3 perfume samples- CK Shock for Her (full-size $40) , Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty (full-size $78), & Marc Jacobs Oh Lola (full-size $78). I am looking forward to trying Oh Lola because I've heard really great things about it.

Next thing I pulled out of my Luxe Box was the Cargo Glitter Top Coat for your eyes. Now I'm really not thrilled about this one. I'm not much of a glitter girl but I will give it a shot. The nice thing about this one though is that it`s full size- not sample. It`s retail price is $18.

Here is what Cargo says about the product on their site: " Let your eyes steal the spotlight! The ultimate transformer, CARGO’s Glitter Top Coat takes your daytime eye makeup straight into the evening with one sweep of the brush. Infused with colored iridescent glitter in a transparent base, Glitter Top Coat can be worn alone or on top of any waterproof eyeliner or eye shadow. The super long-wear formula is both waterproof and smudge-proof, and the magic tip applicator allows for perfect results!"

Lastly I recieved another sample of the Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex. I will use this product to see what it's like but, I'm only 21 so I really don't think I need this yet. I will probably give one of the samples to my mom. The full size version retails for $60.

And that's it people! Overall I would say I`m satisfied but I thought it would be a little better. I guess I will wait and see how next months turns out. I also am waiting for my GlossyBox to arrive so after a few months of each I will see what one I like better and cancel the other.

What are your thoughts on Luxe Box?

3 Day Juice Cleanse

Hey all! So I finished my juice cleanse- I just ended up going for a 3 day cleanse but I felt pretty good most of the time during it. Most of what I had read on juice cleanses said that if it's your first one you should start with 3 days but here I was thinking that I was above that 7 days would be a breeze but after 3 I started to think maybe I am just a beginner and maybe 3 is a good place to start haha. So that's what I did. I'm glad I was able to get through it and hopefully in a little while I will give it another go and try for a longer cleanse but right now I think 3 days was a good amount of time. You know what I missed most though? It wasn't the hunger that got me, it was the activity of eating. It's so hard to sit down and watch a movie on a Friday night with no good snack food or drinks. That's not good, it means I'm eating when I'm not necessarily hungry so I've gotta work on that! Other than that I think I did alright.

But I've found an amazing summer drink recipe that I will be making frequently now and I'd love to share it with you.

Ingredients:

1/3 Pineapple
2 granny smith Apples
4 tbsp Mint (finely chopped)
1 oz Lime juice

SO good. Also, it's best to leave the pineapple on it's side in the fridge before you cut it as all the sweetness that sits at the bottom of the pineapple will be dispersed better that way. Definitely a keeper though! Now I just need some fun patio glasses so I can sit on my deck and sip on this refreshing drink. Oh, how I love summer.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

Juice Cleanse

So, I'm starting a juice clease today! I recently picked up a second hand juicer and have been making myself fresh juice daily and really enjoy it. I've also been reading alot on juice cleanses and really wanted to give it a try. So I woke up this morning and thought, hey, why not?

I have tried the master cleanse before and failed so I'm hoping this goes better! I just couldn't get past the 'juice' that you drink during the master cleanse and after day 3 I couldn't get it down so that was it for the master cleanse! Hopefully the fact that I'm sharing this with you guys will make me stay strong because now I will have to share my failure with you all if it doesn't work out. I am not overly prepared for the juice cleanse and am just taking it day by day- I don't even have a set amount of time I will be doing it for but I think that's better. I will try to be in tune with my body and just go with it.

My first juice recipe that i'm using today is the Mean Green juice sans ginger (only because I didn't have any). This morning I made enough for 2 or 3 drinks during my day. 33oz says my mason jar. I read that it is recommended to have 4-6 16-20oz glasses a day so that should be about 2 drinks. I may have sort of cheated this morning by having a fruit smoothing (no dairy) beacause I didn't have enough veggies to make another juice and I make a smoothie every morning for me and my bf anyway so, it was easy. I will be stocking up on veggies and fruit tonight for the next few days.
Here is the recipe for the juice I am drinking today:

6 Kale Leaves
1 Cucumber
4 Celery Stalks
2 Green Apples
1/2 Lemon
1 piece of ginger

I also used less kale but used spinach in it's place. Kale has a taste all it's own and is hard to get used to so I think I will gradually work my way into getting used to Kale. Isn't it pretty though, it's so green it almost looks fake. YUM, at this point the cleanse doesn't seem all that difficult. Give it a day or two and I'll be singing a different tune.

Anyway I don't want to bore you all with this mega long post so I think I'll wrap it up.

Have you guys tried juice cleanses before? If so what were you results and do you have any tips for me?? I'd love to hear your input!

Get to Know Me

Taylor from NotoriousEyes tagged me in this little 'Get to Know Me' questionnaire so First, check out her awesome blog, and Second, keep reading if you wanna know a little more about me! :)

(Miss Katie K from Belle De Jour also just recently tagged me so check out her blog too, it's great!)

What is your favorite beauty product that you have?
Hmmm...something that I use everyday consistently is my Shiseido eyelash curler.

2. What was the hardest product to get your hands on?

A good Self Tanner but I just did a post one that I think will be great.

3. What are your favorite clothing brands?

Don't really buy a lot of one brand but I like Hollister, RVCA, LA Idol for jeans..

4. What is the one product that you won't go out without?
Corrector/Concealer
5. Are you a nail polish junkie and what is your favorite shade right now?
Yes I am for sure! Loving all the pastels right now, like Peach and Mint.
6. What best describes your makeup looks most?
Fresh, I hope

7. What's your best beauty tip that worked for you?
Drink water and lots of it

8. Are you a drugstore or high-end person
Probably drugstore- but I would say higher end drugstore products

9. What is the one drugstore product that you think tops high end?

That's tough...

10. What's your favorite food?
It's ever changing. I love salmon though. And i'm really into juicing with my new juicer lately! But that's not food per se....
11. What's your favorite hairstyle right now?
Curly with my 4 in 1 curling iron.

That's it! Now instead of tagging people in this post I'm just going to say if you wanna do this, do it. I know I'm breaking rules, sorry :).

(uh, Blogger is not co-operating with the formatting so I apologize for the unevenly spaced questions/answers. It really bugs me so I had to mention it....)

Lusting After Product of the Moment

If you want to look sun kissed these days, your best option is a fake tanning product, but there are SO many to choose from. I would be out so much money if it weren't for awesome people like you guys reviewing your favourite products and letting me know what's great and what sucks. So I found what looks to be an awesome self-tanning product and I want it so bad! Give it a few days and I'm sure I'll break down and buy it, like I always do. I found it on eBay and the price isn't bad so if you wanna try it too and you don't mind waiting for delivery then I would go there first. Great reviews can also be found on MakeupAlley, the best site to check out before you buy a new beauty product.
So that's currently on my want list (along with some Hunter rubber boots, love), what's on yours? Let me know!

These are all great blogs. I follow each and every one of them and I recommend that you do too, because if not, you're missing out.

Revlon, Smashbox, Shiseido &...Crayola

So I have a mini haul for you guys! I went into Shoppers Drug Mart for Revlon ColorStay foundation and I came out with a couple extras, of course. But how could I not, they were on sale! So first- the foundation was $19.49, regular price. Then as I was heading to the checkout I found my favourite Shiseido Eyelash Curler on sale for $12 down from $20 and Smashbox O-Plump on sale for $10 down from $28!! See now you understand why I couldn't just walk by. As for the Crayola, well I've been seeing alot of hair chalking videos lately and thought I would give it a go. I know this type of chalk is not the best chalk to use for chalking but I still have seen reviews with it and since I couldn't find the other kind this will have to do. Once I try it out I will let you guys know. :)

Let's start with the Smashbox O Gloss. It says on the tube "Intuitive Lip Plumper with Goji Berry-C Complex" The Intuitive part of this is that it comes out of the tube/goes on clear but within a minute or two it turns into "your own custom shade of pink", it's really neat! When I put it on it felt quite tingly but not enough that it bothered me. It goes on smooth and silky not goopy like some other glosses. It smells minty and tastes fine too. Overall (note this is only after my first use) I think it is a great gloss but now I'm afraid I will fall in love with it and have to pay full price! But after reading around I think it can be found on Ebay cheaper than in store so if you wanna give it a try I would suggest you go there first- or check your local Shoppers, maybe the sale is on in your area too!
Next onto the eyelash curler. I bought this originally back in the summer because, of course, I had seen/ heard great things about it online. And boy were they right. I didn't really think one eyelash curler could be any different from the rest but this really is, somehow. I find it opens wider than other brands, so I feel more control, and its flatter so it gets more of my lashes. It just feels so comfortable and it never rips my lashes out. There's not much else to say except that I highly recommend this curler!

As for the foundation, I really can't give a review quite yet as I haven't tried it. I'm hoping it lives up to the hype though.  But I can tell you that I bought it in 150-Buff and I bought the normal/dry skin type. They also had it for oily skin. This foundation says it wears for up to 16 hours and also has an SPF15 which is great. Once I try it for a while I will let you guys know what I think.

Lastly, the Crayola chalk. Yet again, I haven't tried this but I'm so excited to see how it will turn out! I opted for the Crayola chalk as it had more colour choices in the pack as opposed to the big thick pieces that I saw at the dollar store. This was only $1.69 so I'm really not out much if it doesn't work out.
Oh and one more thing, I want to share my receipt with you! If we take the regular priced foundation and the chalk out of the equation I spent $22, and saved $26. Now that's what I like to see!
Have you guys tried any of these products? If so, let me know what you think!

Fahrenheit 4NOne Curling Iron set

I've seen SO many videos of this curler used on YouTube, and I've heard so many good things about it, so I figured, why not try it out? I actually got this as a gift, which I may have hinted at, but I believe it was $49.00 from Winners. If you live in Canada and have a Winners near by I would definitely recommend this as if your going to buy it online it's quite a bit more. I've found it here on Amazon for $72.99.

There are 4 different size barrels that come with this curling iron. Removing and attaching the barrels is a breeze and I never have any issues with that. I've used it multiple times and my favourite barrels seem to be the 2 middle ones. They make such awesome curls. I find the second smallest barrel gives you the Taylor Swift waves/curls, so if any of you are going for that, I recommend that size.  It heats up very quickly, the glove is very helpful and comfy- and trust me, you wanna wear the glove because I know from experience that it gets VERY hot and will give you a nasty burn if you accidentally touch it to your skin. It also gets up to temperature super fast! I can plug it in, turn it on (holding the power button for a second or two, sometimes it's slow) and I would say within 25 seconds its up to full heat. You'll know it's on for sure because the screen lights up.

Normally I stick with the default temperature of 360 degrees but you can choose any temperature you like (up to 450F). The swivel cord makes manoeuvring very easy so you don't have a tangled curly cord by the end of your routine. I find I can sleep in my curls and wake up the next day, and my hair is still just as curly as the day before!

One small issue I have with it is when you turn it off and don't unplug it, it makes this small beeping noise every few seconds (20 maybe?). It's beyond me why it would continue to beep after it's off but I just end up unplugging it and the problem is solved! So overall I would recommend this to anyone and everyone for a versatile curling iron.

If you wanna see some how-to videos/more reviews on the curling iron check out these videos that I've linked below :)

J-Lo Still- Favorite Scent

I am going to start out by saying this fragrance has been discontinued but you can still find it at lots of places. I am from Canada and I can't seem to find it in stores here but it is available online and I know for a fact that it is everywhere in the US as I just had a friend pick it up for me down there and she said it wasn't hard to find.

This scent was released in 2003 so it's not new to the perfume scene. I have probably been using this on and off for 4 or 5 years. Only on and off because I run out and then find another fragrance to use until I find it again. It's very warm, yet not overpowering. I smell white amber with hint of pepper. The combination of warm and fresh spicy notes are amazing. STILL is really different, it's not boring with the common base notes of many perfumes. It also lasts forever! I can smell it on me all day long- morning to night.

Package: The outside package looks simple and clean with the name and some details about the fragrance on the background of light grey colour, with no other designs to clutter it up. The bottle is champagne colour with angles and it has a 'diamond' ring on the bottle's neck , Its damn gorgeous!

Now I'm not great at describing scents so here is what it says about it on Fragrantica:

"Still is very feminine, vivacious, clean and sensual. The opening is luminous and gentle due to the notes of white pepper, mandarin, Earl Grey tea and sake note. The heart note is composed of freesia, rose, jasmine, orange blossom and lily-of-the-valley. The base is warm and sensual with woody and musky notes; sandalwood, musk, amber, orris and pepper. The perfume was created by Michel Girard in 2003."

So to sum it all up- no one go out and buy this perfume because I don't want it to be sold out since they no longer make it! Haha, just joking- I shared this with you because it is my all time favorite and if you try it, you'll know what I'm talking about. :)

Luxe Box by Loose Button

Ok SO, I just signed up for GLOSSYBOX earlier this week and was checking out some of the other Beauty Boxes that were available to me in Canada. Most of them had a wait list and so I joined the Luxe box waiting list since to join the list I didn't have to put in my credit card info-unlike one of the others. Well turns out the wait list wasn't that long because I got an email the next day and it said "Your Luxe Box invitation is here" and I only had 48 hours to sign up before the invitation expired.

I really should have waited until I got my GLOSSYBOX to make sure that I liked the idea of a beauty box but no, you would think that it was the last Luxe Box on earth because I signed up immediatly. I mean if I didn't, what if I let the inviation expire and then never got another inviation again, I would be very dissapointed. So really I just saved myself all that hassle because I probably will like the GLOSSYBOX and want more. Atleast that's how i'm rationalizing it to myself. And hey, I can cancel at any time after I recieve the first one so i'm not out that much.

As I mentioned in my GLOSSYBOX post, I will wait until my Luxe Box arrives until I do the full review but if you want some more info on Luxe Boxes, keep reading.

Luxe Box is an exciting membership service that delivers 4-5 deluxe beauty samples to you in a chic box every month. The samples range from skincare and makeup to fragrance, body, and haircare. This way, you get to try a variety of products and brands in the comfort of your home and discover the ones that are perfect for you.  The service is only available in Canada and is $12 a month including shipping.

Luxe box also offers a First in Line Program. It is an exciting program that lets you reserve one product in your upcoming Luxe Box based on a selection of available products. If you successfully reserve the product, you will receive it in your next Luxe Box. It's not available every month but when they are running this program, you will get an email link and the option to reserve your product (if your quick enough!). This is something different from the other boxes I've seen.

So there's the low-down on Luxe Box- if you think you wanna try it with me, click here.  Super excited to receive my box and share it with you guys!

GLOSSYBOX comes to Canada

I know what you're thinking... Another subscription service?!

I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to subscribe as it is a bit more expensive compared than the other beauty box subsciption services available in Canada but I decided to give it a whirl since I can cancel anytime according to their website. (Other box sevices include, TopBox, Gylmm and LuxeBox- some of which are currently sold out and you must join the waiting list if you want to wait until they become available)

I am waiting for my first GlossyBox to arrive before giving a full review but ntil then, here's a few things you should know about the company:

Having originated in Germany and becoming a huge success in the UK and many other countries, GLOSSYBOX is now making its Canadian Debut. Every month members will enjoy a sophisticated 5-item luxury package wrapped in the company’s signature powder-pink box packed with a selection of beauty miniatures from boutique, medical and high-end collections, as well as those tried-tested-and-true favourite beauty brands. To keep the experience truly exciting, a wildcard surprise item could show up in the box at any time. The GLOSSYBOX goal is to share insider know-how and save consumers from tough and costly decisions by sending the best cosmetic and beauty products right to the members’ door for only $15 a month. GLOSSYBOX invites members online to create a personal beauty profile. This ensures that the items in the box will be tailored to the individual’s needs or an introduction to new trends, and quality cosmetic and beauty products.

Only time will tell whether it's worth it, but I am still excited to try it. Don't worry, as soon as it arrives you'll be the first to know!
